We all may have finished with school long ago, but there’s something about coming off of Labor Day that kicks off that old back-to-school feeling. With any luck, we’re all rested and recharged after the summer, and we have a few months here in the fall before the busy holiday season arrives.
At Brandermill Woods, our mantra is “Redefine Retirement.” One thing that means to us is that you never stop learning, growing and improving yourself to make the most out of life in every season. We work hard to provide a full calendar of activities for all of our seniors so they can enjoy new experiences, connect socially, and stay healthy in older age.
With the season of nice weather and a productive mindset in mind, here are a few activities we’re offering to help our seniors and their friends and families get involved. Let the good times roll!
Get Fit
Thanks to our recent expansion, we have a new Wellness Center offering fitness and fun to support the health and vitality of residents. Our weekly exercise classes include weights Tai Chi, yoga, stretch & tone, muscle mania and more. We also offer specialized exercise classes for our assisted living and memory care residents. Beyond classes, our seniors enjoy self-guided workouts as well as our indoor swimming pool for water lovers.
Eat Well
We pride ourselves on cooking healthy, delicious meals in our main dining room—offering appetizing meals and fresh ingredients for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our seniors also enjoy socializing in our new casual dining bistro. After all, dining is about more than the food. It’s also about the experience of spending time with friends and family, making new acquaintances, and more.
Enjoy Games, Crafts & More
Wood carving, Bingo, painting classes, you name it: we offer an assortment of daily activities that give our residents a chance to connect with their friends, participate in a hobby or learn a new skill. All of our residents—independent living, assisted living and memory care—enjoy game nights, movie showings and other activities.
Go on Outings
While we try to offer everything our residents need to enjoy life, there’s nothing like an outing to liven up your day. From lunches out at the Olive Garden or Joe’s Inn to library visits to cultural outings, there’s always something on the schedule. Last month, for instance, our residents enjoyed touring the newsroom at the Richmond Times-Dispatch as well as a visit to Shirley Plantation.
Reflect on the Spirt
The spirit life is just as important as the social life. Whether it’s outings to area church services or local onsite Bible study, Brandermill Woods strives to give our residents the time and resources to reflect and worship. Plus, many of our residents find walking our tranquil grounds an excellent way to commune with the spirit.
