Brandermill Woods independent living angle

Generosity
around every corner.

The Brandermill Woods Foundation’s primary mission is to generate resources to
support and enrich the quality of life for our residents.

At Brandermill Woods we are very fortunate to have people that care so much about what we do that they generously give and donate. That’s why in 2001 we established the Foundation –  to receive and manage these charitable gifts on the community’s behalf. Each dollar received is invested back into the community with programs like our scholarship fund, which awards an educational grant to an employee, our general benevolence fund, our resident assistance program, and our capital projects.

Past and Current Foundation Projects

iPod Shuffles and Headphones

The Music and Memory program began with our sensory group and in The Holly Inn and was started because of a donation by The Foundation. iPods, headsets and all genres of music were purchased and used to uplift residents’ spirits and bring them back to good times and happy memories.

Landscape and Gardening

Various garden areas have been maintained by funding from The Foundation. Areas include Watkins Garden, azaleas in front of The Holly Inn, and the Rose Garden at the Independent Living campus.

Transportation Bus

The Foundation helped support the purchase of a 28-passenger bus which allows residents to take trips all around town.

New Greenhouse

The Greenhouse was built as part of the Expansion project completed in 2017. The surrounding courtyard with a water fountain, benches and memorial bricks complete the serene space.

Courtyard Area

This latest project was quite a transformation with installation of blue stone pavers, pergolas, swings and landscaping. Groups of residents gather nightly in this serene space.

Annual Scholarship

2024 will mark the 22nd year of The Foundation scholarship being awarded to a well-deserved staff member. The scholarship provides assistance for our staff to further their education, whether it’s course work in college, high school, vocational-technical school, professional certification or job-related training.

Lifelong Learning Institute

The Lifelong Learning Institute was spearheaded by Brandermill Woods in 2004. Chesterfield County residents 50 and older can take advantage of a learning environment where the goal is intellectual stimulation with a dose of fun, where there are no prerequisites, homework is optional and exams are prohibited.

Resident Assistance

A Brandermill Woods resident, because of circumstances beyond their control who can no longer afford to fully pay their monthly service fee, may be eligible for financial assistance to go towards rent, once they meet the criteria set forth and approved by The Foundation Board of Directors.

Therapeutic Garden

The Foundation donated money for the transformation of an outdoor space at The Health Care Communities into a therapeutic garden. This space includes a walking path, pergola, wheelchair accessible swing and beautiful landscaping.

Craft Shop Equipment

Brandermill Woods renovated a storage building at The Health Care Communities into a Woodshop for the residents to enjoy. The Foundation funded the new equipment for the space, and the residents have really taken advantage and appreciate the added amenity.
