From all of us at Brandermill Woods, we’d like to wish Arthur Haake a happy 100th, (or should we say 25th?) birthday today!
As you might have already seen, Arthur has experienced quite a lot in life, including the roaring twenties, the Great Depression, and World War II.
Arthur, a graduate from Harvard Law School, put his law career aside to join the Marines as a Second Lieutenant at the beginning of World War II in 1941. His military career spanned 27 years and included two landings with the Marine Raiders. Although he suffered an injury at the Battle of Pelelie, Arthur continued to serve our country until his retirement as a full Colonel.
After retirement, Arthur and his wife Ruth (now deceased), moved to Caroline County and bought a horse farm, opened a riding school and worked as a planner for the city of Fredericksburg for 12 years. After selling the farm, Arthur and Ruth moved to Brandermill and eventually transitioned to Brandermill Woods where he still lives independently. Even in “retirement,” Arthur served on the board of the Brandermill Community Association, played tennis, attended several classes at VCU and traveled to Europe 21 times.
With his witty jokes, sharp intellect and love for music, Arthur truly is just as vibrant as the next 25 year-old!
To honor Arthur and his many accomplishments, we are hosting a private celebration today at 4:30 p.m. in the Brandermill Woods Clubhouse.
