The days are long, but the years are short: this adage has never been more true than in 2020. But let’s make the most of each day, especially as we celebrate the end of summer. With Labor Day right around the corner, fulfill your summer bucket list and enjoy making some new memories. Here are a few ideas for inspiration:
Fire up the grill.
Whether you’re a grill master or a novice, you can make a fabulous steakhouse burger that will wow. Also, try some new grilling recipes — whether it’s beef, chicken, seafood or vegetables.
Head out for a day trip.
Whether you drive up to the BlueRidge Parkway for the day or to a nearby lake, just a change of scenery can be enjoyable. Check out Virginia is for Lovers for a few new ideas.
Eat ice cream.
If you have an ice cream maker, try a new recipe for a homemade treat. If you don’t, pick up your favorite at a local walk-up ice cream shop. You might also get some good old fashioned vanilla and create a toppings bar at home.
Enjoy the water.
Whether you walk by the lake, go out on a canoe or do a little shore fishing, make the most of these dog days of summer.
Play an outdoor game.
Break out the old crochet set, horseshoes or cornhole. Challenge yourself or a neighbor to a friendly, socially distanced game.
Get creative.
Buy a paint-by-number set or a pack of blank canvases and unleash your inner artist. Sitting outside in the cool mornings or late evenings can be inspiring.
Star gaze.
When the sun goes down and the stars come out, see how many constellations you can name. While the weather is still warm, there’s nothing nicer than a view of the night sky.
Plan a picnic.
Find a shady spot and lay out your gingham blanket or tablecloth. Unpack some sandwiches, fruit and salads. Drink in the moment with a cool pitcher of lemonade.
Raise a glass to fall
The end of summer can be a cause for celebration as we all look forward to perfect Virginia temperatures and the colors of fall. Mixup a fun cocktail and toast the new season ahead!
