At Brandermill Woods, the summer months offer plenty of opportunities for excitement and fun activities. It's warm outside, and the sunny days mean you can enjoy your favorite hobbies, day trips, and indoor fun. We believe in offering our residents options tailored to their interests. Let's take a look at some of the activities our residents get most excited about when the warm days of summer roll in.
1. Arm Chair Travels
Too hot to travel comfortably this summer? The Brandermill Woods assisted living residents have multiple opportunities to travel to various cities, states, countries, and other travel destinations from the comfort of our media room. Modern cinematography allows our residents to continue to learn and experience places they’ve never seen. During the month of August we will “visit” our National Parks, Memphis, TN, South Carolina and Italy! Snacks are provided so residents can enjoy “traveling” in comfort while exploring our world!
2. Gardening
Gardening is a way to create beauty while also enjoying the outside and a host of therapeutic benefits. Residents at Brandermill Woods are welcome to put in their own garden plots to enjoy a bountiful harvest of fresh produce or aromatic flowers. What gets planted is up to the gardener. Just outside our Florida room is the resident community garden, where you can garden in peace or take part in a hobby group. Residents are also able to utilize our beautiful greenhouse, if you prefer to garden indoors!
Do as much or as little gardening as you enjoy. Take care of a single potted plant, or get your hands constantly dirty planting rows of seeds. Caring for plants has therapeutic benefits in addition to the fun you get watching your seedling sprout and turn into something delicious and/or beautiful.
3. Board Games
During the hottest parts of the day, indoor activities can be more enjoyable, and board games are a great way to pass the time. Classics like Scrabble and Monopoly or an endless variety of card games just scratch the surface of what's available. Mystery games, puzzles, horror, and other genres are all out there, letting you pick a game that is engaging and fun.
Playing stimulates cognitive function, encourages the use and development of problem-solving skills, and offers you a relaxed social interaction. A game day is a great way to beat the heat and have tons of fun.
