The team at Brandermill Woods is excited to welcome Lauren Lee as our new communications coordinator. Lauren started in May, and works on various newsletters, our in-house TV communications, and other resident communications.
“I tell people all the time that every day is a good day here, and I look forward to going in to work,” said Lauren, a Richmond native who graduated a few years ago from Christopher Newport University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in leadership.
The Richmond native said she feels lucky to be here at Brandermill Woods, and enjoys hearing stories from the residents, though Lauren has a few exciting stories of her own. To start, she has a twin sister, which has definitely enriched her life, but she cited a summer abroad in college as the most memorable experience she’s ever had.
As part of a religious studies course, she completed the Camino de Santiago, a 600-mile pilgrimage across Spain to the burial site of St. James the Great, one of the 12 apostles. The journey involved walking 12-18 miles a day and took more than five weeks. On the trail, Lauren met people from all over the world, and it re-shaped her outlook on life. She knew she wanted to find meaningful work after graduation, which led her to Brandermill Woods.
She recalled that on the day of her job interview, she saw two residents waiting to go on a shopping trip. One resident was sitting on the couch, and the other came over to ask how she was doing. He helped her off the couch, and although they hadn’t seemed to know each other beforehand, the two walked away the best of friends.
“You experience the compassion and kindness among our residents everywhere you go. Everyone wants to be here, and that definitely rubs off on you,” she said.
